24-Hour Fire Department Duty Day of the Nittenau Junior Firefighters 2024

| Junior firefighters

Action and Team Spirit: Successful Duty Day of the Nittenau Junior Firefighters.

Last September weekend 2024, it was time again: From September 27 to 28, the annual 24-hour fire department duty day of our junior firefighters took place. After the official "shift takeover," the first alarm sounded immediately. The first alert was "Fire in an agricultural building - multiple casualties." Together with the junior firefighters from Bruck i. d. Opf. and Bodenstein, a firefighting operation was launched, and the injured were taken care of.

The young firefighters entered the building under breathing protection when a breathing protection emergency occurred. The young firefighting trainees reacted immediately and rescued their injured colleague. After the successful completion of the operation, Karl-Heinz Stich, the 3rd Mayor of the city of Nittenau, thanked all participants for their important voluntary service and commitment.

Strengthened, the day continued with various operations: a resuscitation, a dumpster fire, and a triggered fire alarm system. After a short night, the young firefighters were called to a grass fire early in the morning. After the message "Fire out – operation over," breakfast was waiting at the fire station.

Several smaller drills followed, including the rescue of a fallen cyclist and an animal rescue. Another major drill was a basement fire, again with multiple casualties. Using breathing protection dummies, the youth firefighters searched the residential building for people, rescued them, and extinguished the fire. Additionally, they had to open a locked apartment door.

As the final highlight of the day, a person search along the river Regen took place. A canoe accident was simulated. After a short time, the youth firefighters found a person in the nearby forest and provided first aid. This person reported that another person was still in distress in the water. To assist, the youth firefighters called in the Nittenau water rescue service. Using a boat, this second patient was successfully brought to shore and handed over to the emergency services.

At the end of the shift, the vehicles and the fire station were tidied up. A big thank you goes to all the helpers, drivers, team leaders, and the makeup team. Thanks also to the BRK (German Red Cross) Nittenau for their support with the patient transport vehicle (KTW) and for providing the rooms for the makeup of the role-players. Without the support of our local companies and numerous private individuals, such an event would not be possible.

A special thanks goes to the companies Reil and Eichinger, as well as Gunter Stangl Garden and Landscaping. Finally, a big thank you to our youth leader team, who once again organized an unforgettable fire department duty day.
